The explanation in this case is kind of difficult.
- Spoiler:
- Let's pick 8 random marbles and weigh them, 4 on one side and 4 on the other. If any side is lighter, we take all four marbles from it and dump the rest, if there's a balance between them - we pick the 4 remaining marbles we did not weigh and dump the rest.
In any case, we have 4 marbles now. We weigh them again, 2 on one side and 2 on the other. We separate two marbles from the lighter side and dump other two.
...the rest is fairly obvious, isn't it? We weigh the remaining 2 marbles, one on one side and one on another. The side which is lighter holds the marble we need... and if both marbles are of equal weight, we throw both of them at malchert for giving us 12 marbles of equal weight.
