oookay. What I didn't take into account in my calculations was the existence of prizes for matching fewer than 4 numbers. Getting one of these prizes is (of course) vastly more probable, and you may actually be losing a lot of money here, widdows. Either way, you need to check the maths on this. I'll try and do it later; I can't be bothered right now.

I also don't have enough information about the game to do it right now: It seems that order doesn't matter, but I still have no clue about the draw process. Can the same number be drawn multiple times? If the system is, as you seem to have hinted, just four random numbers generated by excel in the range 1-20 inclusive, then repetitions are possible, and, as I have said before, it upsets the probability distribution over various tickets.

Yes it is a random excel function and sometimes numbers are repeated (although very rarely) there was no repeat tonight so the draw was good.

Not in terms of money!

What do you do if a number is repeated? Accept it, or re-draw it?

We re draw it, no one had repeated numbers on their tickets so it would have been harsh and unfair to accept it. I'm well annoyed I'm one of the people who didn't win anything on my brother's lottery when I'm the ajudicator, and I donated 10 GBP so that everyone got their winnings, I'm a lovely person Smile

I think it is a great idea, but for future transparency, it might be good to do this in some sort of public way, or have 3-4 people control it rather than ''just'' one person.

That said, if I have money for it, I'll defo buy a ticket next week - once a gambler....

Might be a good idea to send some sort of confirmation message to the people that have bought tickets (such as myself)

Hey guys thanks to everyone for playing this lottery but i have its too easy to win 1 in 4 tickets won last night meaning there is little or no chance of a profit

Therefore i may make the numbers go up to 25-30 so it is harder you will still only pick 4 numbers and the prizes will be remain the same.

Alternatively i could decrease the max amount of tickets from 4 to 3 but i don't really wish to do this

Let me know your opinions on here or in the newspaper

Thanks
Sam

Even though i dont play the lottery i think it has alot of potential. I hope there is a way to make sure that you do not lose any money in the process. If the lottery becomes a wordly thing then maybe the government will fund it.
