“Always wanted to proof that Einstein was wrong? Are you the type of guy that freaks out when people say Pi=3.14, in stead of 3.141593? Then this is a place for you. A place for intelligent discussions regarding RL situations or discussions. Only for the smartest among us.”

Pi = 3.142 so I’m somewhere in-between.

Wonder whether it’s a UK thing or just my class that use an extra dp.

One thing that annoys me is that 5 is rounded up, but 4.999~ is rounded down, when they're the same number.

you have to draw the line somewhere. anyway rounding >=5 up and 5< down is done because the sides are even. It also stops people having to check whether something’s recurring or not so its quicker.

We use 3.142 in Aussie maths, HOWEVER, in adv. maths we leave it in exact form all the time

On a different forum, I used to bump neglected topics that had only 3 replies from 6 months ago, then watch how nobody realised, and they got loads and loads of replies...its weird, and then a moderator said i was "being evil" (that's a quote), so I stopped...

I use the symbol for pi. Never use the number. If I were to use the number, it would be "3.141..." to show that I'm leaving it as it is on the calculator to avoid rounding errors.

It is actually exact...considering pi is n e v e r e n d i n g, (forgot the term for that), a fraction is just as good as a symbol Smile

22/7 = 3.1428..

Pi = 3.14159...

I see what your argument is... but unfortunately the truth is that its not exact.
