If three cats catch three mice in three minutes, how many cats would be needed to catch 100 mice in 100 minutes?
A nice easy one
3, as 3 cats catch mice at a ratio of 1 per minute.

One cat...
Each cat is catching 1 mouse per minute....
1 cat with 100 minutes can catch 100

Deilos wrote:Four cats.
Three can catch 99 in 100 minutes, therefore one more to catch the extra.
i would say the answer is 3.Like said Deilos they'll catch 99 mice in 99 minutes and join there forces to catch the last mouse within the last minute.
waiting for the answer

Surely it takes three minutes for one cat to catch one mouse... Therefore three cats. Like Lotfire said.

Re: universal riddles topic
no, it takes three minutes for three cats to catch three mice deilos.
so thats 3 cats, 3 mice, 3 minutes.
So it'd be the same as 1 cat, 1 mouse, 1 minute.
So one cat catches a mouse a minute.
So one cat in one hundred minutes can catch one hundred mice.
so thats 3 cats, 3 mice, 3 minutes.
So it'd be the same as 1 cat, 1 mouse, 1 minute.
So one cat catches a mouse a minute.
So one cat in one hundred minutes can catch one hundred mice.

Re: universal riddles topic
What if the cats work together, so groups of cats can catch mice at a faster rate than a single cat?

Just watched Shrek 2.
In my opinion Puss in Boots could take fifty mice in seven minutes easy.

I think your math is flawed here
3 cats = 3 mice in 3 mins
3 cats = 1 mouse in 1 min
so 3 cats catch 99 in 99 mins and team up to catch the last one in the last minute

If
If
Why would they wait for the other cats to catch a mouse before catching their own mice?
- Code:
3 cats = 3 mice in 3 mins
- Code:
1 cat = 1 mouse in 3 mins
If
- Code:
1 cat = 1 mouse in 1 min
- Code:
3 cats = 3 mice in 1 min

I can't see your logic, because to me if you divide the three cats by three, so you have one cat, then you should divide the mice and minutes by three to make things equal.
So it's all 1 - 1 - 1
three cats can catch one mouse each in three minutes.
That's an average of one cat catching one mouse every minute.
1 - 1 - 1
I'm pretty sure I've done the maths right?

Re: universal riddles topic
You wouldn't divide the minutes by three. They don't catch mice more slowly the more of them there are, if anything they catch them more quickly.

Re: universal riddles topic
not really
if 3 cats eat 3 mice in 3minutes.
1 cat can eat 1 mouse in 3 minutes.
or 3 cats eat 1 mouse in 1 minute
or 3 cats eat 100mice in 100minutes.
or translated into english:
you and 2 friends drink 3 beers in 3 minutes. (1 each)
you alone will drink 1 in 3 minutes
not 1 in 1 minute.

Re: universal riddles topic
a nice and easy one:
a father and his son are crossing the street. Suddenly they get hit by a bus. The father is dies immediately and the son is taken to the hospital.
In the hospital the son is taken to the operation room but when the doctor walks in the room he says: "I'm sorry, but I can't operate my own son"
who's the doctor?

the mother was correct.
As I understood, in the English language (just like in dutch and French) doctor is always masculine

Nope, English lacks the masculine/feminine clause entirely.

Re: universal riddles topic
Mm.
I've heard that one before which is why I figured it was the mother, even with the he.
I don't have a riddle.
So whoever is next can go.
