Re: Types of weapon
Well, your suggestions are more a list of weapon classes. A tank is also not a weapon but a vehicle
I think a better weapon system would be
Sidearm: (Pistols/Melee Weapon)
Primary Weapon: (SMG/Assault Rifle/LMG/HMG/Sniper/RPG/Anti-Tank)
Special: (Grenade (Different Types available)/Underslung Grenade Launcher/Gas Mask/Anything else you can think of)
Vehicle: (APC/Tank/etc) (Just adding this in for fun, if you're in a vehicle then you only fight other vehicles, do not use regular, (sidearm, primary and special) weapons but can choose vehicle weapon wooh, complication ftw, we can leave this for V2 lol)
I would also change it so that you simply buy a weapon and that's that. Then you must repurchase ammunition. 1 Ammunition would replace how 1 weapon is used currently.
Different weapons could have different effects that are used to determine your total strength.
Example: A player equips a pistol, standard assault rifle, and a flash grenade.
Player1
Base Accuracy 70% (is related only to the base strength), (Starting Accuracy is 60% and rises 5% every military skill level. (i.e. 3.6 would be +15%)).
Base Strength = 2 Sidearm = 0.5 Primary = 1.25 Special = 0 Effect = -25% enemy accuracy.
Total Strength: 3.75 +
Player 2
Base Accuracy 50% (-25% Penalty)
Base Strength = 3 Sidearm = 0.5 Primary = 1.5 Special = 1 Effect = N/A
Total Strength = 6
Server determines who hits and who misses
P1= hit Dmg (Dmg is total Str /2)= 1.875
P2= miss Dmg = 0
P1 HP (HP is strength) = 3.75
P2 HP = 4.125
Round 2 begins.
Feel free to play around with it, for instance a sniper could give an accuracy increase, but cost a hell of a lot of money.
It would be an awesome way to expand the weapons industry and throw in a good amount of customisation.
Sorry for hijacking, kinda, I just thought I'd write this up, well for the sake of it : /

Re: Types of weapon
...You've given this some thought.
I always assumed the Quality to mean just that: the quality. Q4 would be something like Sig-Sauer, Browning, or Smith & Wesson. Q3 would be something like H&K, Remington, or Fabrique Nationale. Q2 would be something like Glock, Colt, or Barretta. And Q1 would be those cheap Chinese knock-offs of all of the above.

Re: Types of weapon
I'm not sure how you can put a Browning in the same league as a Sig: there's a good reason why we're replacing the former with the latter.Rayf Drayson wrote:...You've given this some thought.

Re: Types of weapon
Good point. I guess I was thinking more historical terms. Or their heavier weapons, like the .50-cal machine guns they make. But yeah, Browning in general would probably be Q2.

Re: Types of weapon
wow squiddy this sounds liek a very interesting proposal, but unfortunately as you said you might have to wait for V2. All the weapons companies would either have to specialise or would they be able to produce eg weapons and ammunition?

Re: Types of weapon
I'm not sure to be honest, maybe they could do both weapons and ammunition but must upgrade both individually, so it costs to upgrade weapons to level 2 and then again for ammo to level 2, perhaps they could be 25% cheaper to upgrade than other companies or something.
Ryaf, as you said, my proposal does take into account quality. Pistols would cover Q1 - Q4 as you said.
So ultimately it would lead to weapons companies being able to produce around 40 different products, ranging from pistols to snipers to RPG's etc.
It sounds a lot, and it sounds like it would be very hard to do. Trust me, it's not. eBay has about 50 different categories with thousands of different items under each and that's a dream to use. It's not hard at all, just requires a little bit of effort and thought.

errr, someone has been playing to much counter strike or battlefield here
here's what I think about it:
my military mind says: Q4 pwns Q3 pwns Q2 pwns Q1
my consumer mind says: Q1 cheaper then Q2 cheaper then Q3 cheaper then Q4
my capitalist mind says: Q4 more profit then Q3 more profit then Q2 more profit then Q1
my anti commie mind says: Q4 alows me to shoot a stronger commie then Q3 allows me shoot a stronger commie then Q2 allows me shoot a stronger commie then Q1

Re: Types of weapon
i think squiddy's idea is pretty good. there is quite a lot of potential in that. it could end up with some shops specialising in one type of weapon/ammo or specialising in ammo in general or weps in general.
would being able to sell the same item at different quality levels be possible?

Re: Types of weapon
Not with the current system because you need to upgrade the entire company to produce a higher quality product.
Thanks btw, I like that idea but I doubt we'll see anything like that till even after V2.

Re: Types of weapon
That would be ace if we could have the RAF and the Royal Navy.
Imagine if we could have aircraft carriers which could be used as a forward attack base. So you would be able to attack countries that aren't neighbouring the British Isles

Re: Types of weapon
It would be great to have air and naval power. Heck, it would be great to even have tanks. Could have a whole series of industries surrounding just the creation of military tech: tanks, ships, planes...
But then you're getting into a far, far more involved simulation that can't really be handled on the per-person basis that we have right now. I mean, it would take 4-5 soldiers just to drive a tank! And a destroyer? Or an aircraft carrier?
Now, cruise missiles... I could see those being an interesting addition.

Re: Types of weapon
That would be cool it could cost the same as a hospital of the same quality level. Only when used on a nation it could remove 10% wellness on all citizens (Q1, 20% Q2 etc.) Or instead of a nation just a region instead

That is a good idea. Plus I don't know if you read another topic about eventually all regions will have top quality hospitals effectively crushing the hospital industry. This would keep it running
