All those other countries seemed to manage it. Although I admit i'm not as up on all their histories as my own.

There are no British people in that sense of the word i think, there are English people, there are Scottish people, there are Welsh people and there are Irish people. The history of the British people today therefore is history of these peoples, so we are still going back at least a millennia or so. The age of the current country is mostly irrelevant to me, you can't talk of a country's history without talking about the history of the people that make it up, i was only mentioning it to show that by even the most ridiculously possible pedantic standards there was still more history than your estimate of 50ish years. I mean, that's how old my mother is, for goodness sake.

Alright I'm sorry about saying Communism is about killing, I was simply saying how the way communistic countries havent done very well at showing itself to be good (though Cuba seems pretty cool) China yes, is yes very corrupt and I will bow to you saying Stalinist since I'm most definitley sure you know much more on this subject than me Smile. However I was simply inquiring why the Americans dislike communism and socailism so much. (I mean communism is ok, it works, I'm just not that left)

I do however dislike capitalism, the reason for me asking why the Americans choose to embrace it and shove aside socailism etc. (And with Capitalism killing, in essence you could say complete privitasation of Medical care many die due to have no insurance)

ok ok, even if we go from the Normans britain has a longer history than America and thats counting the time youve been colinised. the UK only formally existed from 1949 if you want to be technical thats still 60 not 50 years but I count our history from the romans till now

ok to clear the whole history thing up, i didn't just mean the UK. the UKs' history only really goes back to about 100-150bc. the romans weren't our first visitors either. but what i did mean was that compared to the med area (italy, greece, northern africa etc) america was born yesterday.

But if we're going to go and look at the history of the people without considering the nation, then we could start to look at native americans and so forth. That's why i'm saying, it's a tricky question unless we set our parameters properly.

And pliped, yeah err, i think i'm still living in the 90s.... scratch

history is determined by significant events. the native american, australian aboriginies etc remained as hunter gatherers for a huge amount of time with no significant changes. there are still places in the world that can be said to have no history at all.

as for language. the americans speak american and the australians speak australian. their languages stem from english but are different enough in their fundamental structure to be said to be different languages. the same way that afrikaans and dutch are different languages but are closely related enough for a speaker of one to understand the other.

you know i'm beginning to wish i'd never said anything Laughing

Ireland leaving the commonwealth had no effect whatsoever on the existence of the UK, it's ridiculous to say so as it had already left the UK itself. You might aswell then say that the UK is only 5 years old because Rhodesia/Zimbabwe left in 2003. So even if you want to count from the name change from UKoGB&I to UKoGB&NI you're still going back to the 20s.

twaters wrote:But if we're going to go and look at the history of the people without considering the nation, then we could start to look at native americans and so forth.

Americans aren't a continuation of the Native Americans, the Americans are a continuation of the European settlers and immigrants so if you wanted to be like that you'd just be going back to Europe, and then of course to be consistant you'd have to go back to the Middle East and then Africa, and then apes... you have to draw the line somewhere and there are some fairly obvious and sensible places to do so.

really? so accounts by ss officers that hitler refused any meat to be served in his presence, accounts on record, are a myth?
