Cowell lives in the UK. We did Pop Idol before your American Idol and now it's called The X Factor, which the final of which was on last night. Razz

If anyone has watched Carry on films they would know this statement is wrong...

Also CCTV's are for our safety, I dont mind the camera's what is there to be afraid of unless your going to do something wrong? I also agree with the identification cards and the DNA database they are trying to set up, anything that will prove me as an innocent.

The power to watch and use everything you do is a great power and infringes on our fundamental rights. How about those CCTV operators who spent a majority of their work day following woman around on the cameras, or in the U.S. where you can have anything seized at any time under the guise of "antiterrorism" laws.

I worry about kids growing up in this fear culture, surrounded by these concepts of "for your protection" might lead to a completely pacified nation. I'm no anarchist but the idea of more state monitoring just makes me want to torch a civic monument during after business hours.

I'd be careful Nemo, saying things like that, they could be watching...

However, i personally think that some protections are necessary, and i fully support that Australian bloke if he's trying to control access to pornography.

at the expense of freedom? wouldn't it be better just to try and get the specific site shut down? considering that they will block a minimum of 10% wrong sites which means erep might be banned for no apparent reason of course there are ways of getting around censorship so i think the paedophiles would still be able to access child porn through proxy sites and other more sophisticated means whilst other less tech savvy people might have the sites they use wrongly blocked and there connection speed lowered

Yes at the expense of freedom. Freedom is not absolute; that idea cannot be realised within a democratic society. Other considerations need to be considered. I personally would ban all internet porn.

Why 10%? And i don't think that 'they can get around it' is a valid argument. Just because it's theoretically possible to bypass doesn't mean we should simply make it as easy as possible for the paedophiles!

You should live here, he is a loon, the gov. is one of the tightest in the world on protection of illegal stuff, but he even said it would be extended to violent internet games, which, although i think distasteful, is an abhorrent attack on civil liberty

i don't think censoring the internet would actually stop anyone who actually wanted to access it so it would be very ineffective and there are far better ways of dealing with things than just making them illegal

I don't think it's 'an abhorrent attack on civil liberty' if a valid explanation can be found for banning violent video games. In my opinion, there is.

Ares, you has the same monarch for quite a while...

Rastari, how would censoring the internet not stop people?!
